Artist compensation depends on what type of Sofar city it is. There are currently two kinds: cities where tickets are sold online and those that “pass the hat” to collect money for show expenses and artists. For more details on the types of Sofar cities, click here.
In ticketed cities, all performers at standard shows (three acts, 20-25 minute sets) are guaranteed a flat rate of $100 in the US, £75 in the UK, $100 CAD in Canada and 100€ in Spain.
As of February 18, 2020, most ticketed cities have three payment levels, where the total payment for each artist is based on the number of tickets sold for the show:
This applies to all standard shows (including filmed ones) in ticketed cities in the US, UK and Canada. We’ll be rolling this out in ticketed Spanish cities soon.
The total compensation amount will be communicated in the email sent to artists after the show. Since it’s based on total ticket sales, we’re unable to confirm the amount in advance. For more on the booking process, click here.
Independently-operated cities that use a pay-what-you-want system will continue to “pass the hat” for show expenses and artists (instead of selling tickets in advance), with $0 going back to the company. Feel free to discuss any specifics with the local booking team prior to scheduling your show.
